Overview


The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) will soon advertise for our 2026 Graduate Program.

This is an exciting opportunity to launch your career in the Parliamentary Service and contribute to the provision of effective, high quality and sustainable services to parliamentarians, building occupants and visitors to Parliament House.

Our graduates gain a unique experience of the diverse work and services delivered by the department including:

 

  • Library and research services
  • Hansard and broadcasting
  • Communications and media
  • Information technology and cyber security  
  • Security management
  • Building and capital works projects
  • Financial services
  • Art collections, curation and design integrity
  • Catering and events, retail and visitor services
  • Corporate and Human Resource services.

 

The program will run over a 12-month period and focus on developing graduate skills, capabilities and knowledge within the department, to set you up for a successful career. You will join a diverse workforce of passionate and experienced professionals who will guide you and your development throughout and beyond the program.

Our graduates commence at the Parliamentary Service Level 3 (PSL3) classification and, upon successful completion of the program, advance to the Parliamentary Service Level 4 (PSL4). In cases of exceptional performance and suitability, candidates may also be considered for roles at the Parliamentary Service Level 5 (PSL5).

Eligibility and/ or Job Specific Requirements

 

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
 

  • Have completed, or will complete by January 2026, an undergraduate degree or higher in the past three years
  • Be available to commence work by February 2026

 
Employment opportunities at DPS are also subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

  • Australian citizenship
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • The successful completion of a police check, and
  • A pre-employment medical assessment.
     

Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.
 

Salary

 

The salary range for this position will be $78,258 per annum.
Upon successful completion of the program, progress to the Parliamentary Service Level 4 (PSL4) with a salary of $83,415. Those who demonstrate exceptional performance and suitability may also be considered for roles at the Parliamentary Service Level 5 (PSL5), with a salary of $92,450.

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
 

  • Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
     
  • Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
     
  • Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
