Overview

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) will soon advertise for our 2025 Graduate Program.

Employees of DPS contribute to the provision of effective, high quality and sustainable services to parliamentarians, building occupants and visitors to Parliament House. Our graduates gain a unique hands-on experience of the diverse work and services delivered by the department including:

  • Information technology
  • Security and emergency management
  • Building, property maintenance and trades
  • Library and research services
  • Art collections, curation and design integrity
  • Hansard and broadcasting
  • Communications and media
  • Finance, HR, corporate and strategic services
  • Catering and events, retail and visitor services

 

The program will run over a 12-month period and focus on building graduate skills, capabilities and knowledge within the department. Our graduates commence at the Parliamentary Service Level 3 (PSL3) classification and upon successful completion of the program, advance to the base of the Parliamentary Service Level 4 (PSL4).

Eligibility and/ or Job Specific Requirements

 

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

  • Have completed, or will complete by February 2025, an undergraduate degree or higher in the past three years
  • Be available to commence work by February 2025.

 

Employment opportunities at DPS are also subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

  • Australian citizenship
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • The successful completion of a police check, and
  • A pre-employment medical assessment.

Salary

 

Currently, the Department’s salary range for the PSL3/4 level is $72,914 - $84,450 per annum

Conditions of Employment

 

Conditions of employment and rates of pay for non-SES DPS staff are specified in the Department of Parliamentary Services Enterprise Agreement 2024.

 

Australian Citizenship

Section 22 of the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 requires that employees of the Parliamentary Service must be Australian citizens.  If you are not an Australian citizen, you may still be considered for engagement on the condition that you are able to gain Australian Citizenship within a specified time. Failure to obtain citizenship within the timeframe could lead to termination of engagement.

 

Redundancy Benefit Recipient

If you have accepted a redundancy benefit, within the previous twelve months, from a Commonwealth employer (including the Parliamentary Service and the Australian Public Service), you cannot be employed by DPS until your exclusion period (the number of weeks for which you received a redundancy benefit) has expired.
