The Opportunity
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 6 Management Accountant within Finance Branch.
In this role you will have the opportunity to provide financial advice and support to a complex business which comes not just from its size, but the range of unique and commercial activities undertaken at APH. DPS has a uniquely diverse workforce of approximately 1000 staff, working across a wide range administration, trade, technical, customer service and professional roles. We support unique business activities like information and technology services, library and research services, security, broadcasting and Hansard functions, visitor services and support an in-house catering and events function. The section also develops and supports a significant capital works program, which ensures Parliament House is maintained according to i original design intent.
We are seeking candidates who can build productive working relationships across the department, enjoy working in a collaborative environment and have excellent attention to detail. This recruitment process will be used to fill a number of ongoing vacancies at the PSL6 Classification.
Who we are looking for
Our ideal candidate will be:
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in accounting and/or other relevant area.
- Proven ability to undertake work with a moderate level of complexity and sensitivity.
- High level analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build productive key stakeholder relationships.
- Knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, Accounting Standards and government decision-making.
Job Specific Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in areas such as Accounting, Finance, or Commerce with professional membership is working towards obtaining membership.
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Duty Statement
Classification: Parliamentary Service Level 6
Branch: Finance Branch
Section: Management Accounting and Reporting
Immediate supervisor: Senior Management Accountant
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 6 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Partnering with business areas, to understand their unique operating environment and provide financial advice to enable informed decision making.
2. Prepare monthly financial reports to executives that identifies key cost drivers, risks and opportunities to support decision making.
3. Assist in the completion of end of month tasks such as but not limited to: Accruals, Journals and update to forecasts in line with established policies and procedures.
4. Assist with preparation of the external budget, including development of New Policy Proposals in adherence with the Commonwealth Budget Process Operational Rules.
5. Perform research and analysis of financial results to support the Director, Management Accounting and Reporting and Assistant Secretary, Finance Branch in decision making.
6. Assist with preparing a range of written material including business cases, Cabinet submissions, Senate Estimates submissions and Executive Committee papers.
7. Be a part of a culture that contributes to innovation and continuous business process improvement.

Salary
Currently, the salary range for this position is $97,841 - $109,967 per annum.
Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
• Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
• Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
• Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
