The Opportunity

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 4 Logistics Supervisor within Property Services Branch. 

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) supports the functions of the Australian Parliament and the work of parliamentarians through the provision of professional services, advice and facilities, the ongoing maintenance of Australian Parliament House (APH); and makes the building, and the important activity that takes place within it, accessible.

 

DPS is seeking to recruit a highly motivated team member for the role of Logistics Supervisor, within the Maintenance Services Section of the Property Services Branch located at APH in Canberra. The logistics section of the Maintenance Services Section plays a pivotal role in support of APH on a daily basis by delivering efficient and effective logistics services and loading dock operations to parliamentarians, building occupants and visitors.

Who we are looking for

As part of the Logistics team, the successful applicants will be required to supervise the daily operations of the APH loading dock by undertaking tasks, but not limited to:

  • schedule deliveries, direct workflow and supervise team members
  • oversee the timely and efficient dispatch of received goods,
  • provide a high level of customer service, and
  • ensure work is carried out in accordance with policies and procedures.

 

The successful applicant will be well presented, professionally courteous and possess a high level of customer service experience, particularly with a wide range of internal and external clients.

 

They will work in a dynamic and ever-changing environment, requiring flexibility in order to meet the daily challenges presented in delivering this very important service.

   

Job Specific Requirements

  • The applicant must have, and be able to maintain, a current driver’s licence and a Licence to Perform High Risk Work – Forklift.
  • Manual handling duties may be required during peak times or staff shortages, the successful applicant must demonstrate the physical capacity to perform the full range of duties including (but not limited to) pulling, pushing, bending and lifting and will be required to undertake a medical assessment to determine fitness for duty prior to appointment. 
  • The successful applicant will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster and be flexible to work out of core hours during times of heightened demand as required.
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.

Duty Statement

  

Classification: Parliamentary Service Level 4 

Branch: Property Services Branch 

Section: Maintenance Services 

Immediate supervisor: Logistics Operations Coordinator PSL 5

 

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 4 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

1.    Direct workflow and supervise the DPS Logistics team in the delivery of a variety of logistics related tasks in support of the daily operations of the Australian Parliament House (APH) Loading Dock, in accordance with approved policies and procedures.

2.    Manage the APH Loading Dock Mailbox and Calendar, by scheduling emailed delivery requests, ensuring the logistic capability is available to support the request and if/when applicable, liaise and negotiate with stakeholders to reschedule requests due to conflicting priorities.

3.    Update delivery and tracking information in the computerised Loading Dock System (LDS).

4.    Develop and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and clients.

5.    Operate vehicles and material handling equipment in accordance with approved policies and procedures, and

6.    Carry out a variety if logistic related manual handling tasks in accordance with relevant approved legislation, policies, procedures, and manual handling techniques.

Salary

 

Currently, the salary range for this position is $80,672 - $87,659 per annum.

 

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

•    Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

•    Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

•    Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
