The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is seeking customer focused, passionate and hardworking people, to support and grow the catering and events businesses at Australian Parliament House. APH Catering and Events is an in-house food and beverage operation in Parliament House. The operation delivers premium services to multiple event venues ranging from small private dining rooms to large spaces such as the Great Hall. There are also several cafes and restaurants, including a public café, staff dining room, private dining areas, coffee venues, in-room dining and corporate catering.

The Temporary Employment Register

  

This register is designed to establish a database of appropriately skilled and experienced hospitality individuals, who may, at short notice, be further assessed to fill temporary non-ongoing positions for up to 18 months. Non-ongoing (temporary) employment opportunities may be offered on a full time, part time or intermittent / irregular (casual) basis.


You will only be contacted regarding your application if a vacancy arises that matches your skills and experience. There is no guarantee that an offer of employment will be made whilst your application remains on the register.

Back of House Positions

Are you a skilled culinary professional looking for a back of house position in the catering and events industry? Join the APH Catering and Events Team at the Australian Parliament House and play a vital role in our dynamic and fast-paced Back of House operations, supporting high-end functions and ensuring seamless execution.
Roles vary across APH Catering and Events, classification levels and may include the following:


•    Chefs (all levels) 
•    Pastry Chef
•    Apprentice Chef – Commercial Cookery/Patisserie 
•    Steward
•    Kitchen Assistant 
•    Logistics, stores and purchasing officer

 

Requirements:


•    Demonstrated relevant experience in culinary arts and back of house operations, ideally in high-end venues (fine dining, hatted restaurants) or catering/banqueting environments.
•    Strong knowledge and understanding of safe food handling practices, HACCP principles, and compliance regulations.
•    Qualifications in hospitality, commercial cookery, or related fields are highly desirable, reflecting your dedication to culinary excellence.
•    Adaptable and resourceful nature to effectively manage inventory, equipment, and supplies while ensuring compliance with food safety standards (logistics/stores positions) 
•    Attention to detail, strong work ethic, and a passion for delivering exceptional culinary experiences.

Join the APH Catering and Events Team at the Australian Parliament House and provide exceptional service to our building occupants and visitors.
Roles vary across APH Catering and Events, classification levels and may include the following:


•    Barista
•    Head Barista
•    Café Attendant
•    Retail Supervisor

 

Requirements:


•    Minimum 2 years' experience as a skilled barista, with a passion for coffee and knowledge of various brewing techniques.
•    Demonstrated relevant experience in a customer service role, with a keen ability to anticipate and meet the needs of both internal and external guests.
•    Qualifications in hospitality or retail catering are highly desirable, showcasing your dedication to the industry.
•    Impeccable communication skills, friendly demeanour, and a commitment to delivering exceptional guest service.
•    A current Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate. If not currently held, this certificate must be obtained and be maintained.

Requirements:


•    Demonstrated relevant experience in event coordination and/or banquet operations.
•    Strong organisational and communication skills to ensure flawless execution of events.
•    Qualifications in hospitality or event management are highly desirable, showcasing your dedication and expertise in the field.
•    Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic banquet environment.
•    Impeccable attention to detail, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to excellence
•    A current Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate. If not currently held, this certificate must be obtained and be maintained.

Conditions of Employment

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

•    Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

•    Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

•    Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
