The Opportunity

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 6 Creative Designer. 

 

The Parliamentary Library provides high quality analysis and advice to Parliamentarians and produces a range of publications to support their work. The publishing team manages the library’s online presence including our website, Client Portal (intranet) and coordinates publication of engaging research, legislative analysis and data visualisation. We create and distribute Library communications to Parliamentarians and the wider community, and manage our social channels (LinkedIn, X and Facebook). We’re looking for someone who can work under limited direction to deliver high-quality content including print and web publications, infographics, animations, videos, promotional material and more. You’ll work closely with research experts to develop highly engaging web publications. We want someone who is up to date with industry trends to create modern and creative designs. You’ll be able to provide expert advice on graphic design and publishing standards, identify enhancements to improve product engagement, and have excellent stakeholder liaison skills.

Who we are looking for

  

Our ideal candidate will have: 

 

  • Experience designing a range of products across various mediums
  • Highly developed skills and experience in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Experience with a content management system or demonstrated ability to adapt
  • Knowledge and experience applying accessibility guidelines
  • Basic skills in photography and videography

 

Job Specific Requirements

 

•  Tertiary qualifications in design, visual communications or similar OR 4 years of experience working in a similar role with state/territory or federal government.
  
•  The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Duty Statement

Section: Client Relations & Publishing 

Immediate supervisor: Assistant Director, Communications and Publishing

 

Under limited direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for Parliamentary Services Level 6. The work may cover a range of tasks associated with the provision of client focussed digital and print design services in the Parliamentary Library. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:


1.    Deliver engaging creative design services for use across a range of platforms including social media, client promotional emails, webpages, intranets, promotional merchandise and print publications.


2.    Collaborate with Library research experts to develop highly engaging research publications for publication on the web, including by creating and/or sourcing banners, infographics, animations and videos. 


3.    Provide expert advice on graphic design and publishing standards; develop and maintain branding and style guidelines, ensuring consistency and compliance with accessibility standards.


4.    Liaise with stakeholders and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of assets; offer creative solutions to support objectives; stay current with design and publishing industry trends.


5.    Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the Library’s intranet and public webpages, by:


a.    loading and maintaining web content, and
b.    identifying visual enhancements to improve product engagement.

Salary

  

 

Currently, the salary range for this position is $97,841 - $109,967 per annum

 

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

•    Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

•    Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

•    Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
