The Opportunity

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 5 Senior Stone Mason within Property Services Branch.

Maintenance Services is the maintenance authority for Parliament House and is responsible for repairs and maintenance of the building’s structure, fabric, finishes, landscape and all engineering services such as air conditioning, power, lighting, hydraulic services and movement systems.

 

The Building Fabric Services is a Business unit within Maintenance Services, responsible for maintaining the building fabric and furniture within Parliament House. This includes both internal and external surfaces which comprise timber, concrete, stone, glazing, painted surfaces and furniture.

Job Specific Requirements

 

  • Experience with the repairs and maintenance of stone including granite, marble, and travertine.

  • Trade Qualifications relevant to the position.

  • A current and continuing driver’s license is required.

  • The successful applicant will be required to undertake a medical assessment to determine fitness-for-duty prior to appointment.

  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Duty Statement

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 5 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

 

1. Proactively complete all work requiring the application of relevant trade skills, ensuring the highest levels of maintenance for the building, plant, and equipment.

2. As a senior member of the Building Fabric Services team, perform tasks in a workshop and in the field with minimal supervision, including after-hours, sitting periods, shifts, and on-call duties as needed.

3. Assist Building Fabric Services with all business requirements to ensure that all scheduled tasks/program delivery, and project representation are met.

4.Supervise, guide, and support staff and contractors in both technical and operational matters.

5. Report and record completed tasks and other requirements to the supervisors, and ensure relevant information is entered in the computerised maintenance system.

6. Have and maintain adequate levels of fitness for work-related activities such as working at heights, providing first aid, confined space entry and rescue, climbing ladders, gaining access to elevated platforms, lifting, extensive walking, and other physical activities as needed.

7.Ensure the highest levels of safety in all areas of operation, in accordance with Work Health and Safety policies, and participate in all job-related training.

How did you prioritise tasks, allocate resources, and ensure your team worked effectively to meet operational requirements? What reporting processes did you utilise?

 

3. Can you share an example of a time when you had to use your communication and negotiation skills to resolve a challenging situation with a client or stakeholder? How did you approach the situation, and what was the outcome, and how did you communicate the situation to your supervisor?

Salary

 

Currently, the salary range for this position is $89,410 - $95,924 per annum. The successful candidate is entitled to an additional 17% flexibility loading on top of the salary range.

 

 

 

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

•    Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

•    Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

•    Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
