The Opportunity
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 3 Parliamentary Security Operations Room (PSOR) Operator within Security Operations. Reporting to the Parliamentary Security Operations Room (PSOR) Manager, the control room operator is responsible for access control, operating security and emergency management systems, responding to potential incidents and assisting with the coordination of resources for the provision of a safer and secure physical environment at the Australian Parliament House (APH).
Security Division is responsible for the provision of security services, including daily operational security, policy management, building security, parking services, visitor access, security risk management, resilience planning and emergency management. Security Division works in partnership with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to ensure the safety and security of Australian Parliament House (APH) occupants and visitors.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking highly motivated and organised Operators to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate should be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks efficiently. As a PSOR Operator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the PSOR daily operations.

Job Specific Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a control room environment, including monitoring CCTV and managing electronic access control arrangements is desirable.
- Must be able to work a 12 hour rotating roster.
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.
If you are a successful candidate, you will be required to:
- Complete an intensive training program, including Operational Safety Training, to a satisfactory standard.
- Obtain and maintain a First Aid Certificate.
- Complete annual refresher training on operational safety and first response emergency procedures.
You may also be required to complete a fitness test. To pass the fitness test, you must be able to:
If you are selected through the Assessment Centre, you will be required to complete a fitness test at Parliament House. To pass the fitness test, you must be able to:
- Complete a cardio test
- Do 10 pushups
- Do 20 sit ups
- Drag a 50kg dummy for 20m
- Hand grip test.

Duty Statement
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the specified classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Operate the full range of complex PSOR security systems, including access control systems, CCTV, EWIS, and other security infrastructure.
2. Comply with, and provide sound advice relating to, APH Security policies and procedures, including the CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) and EACS (Electronic Access Control System) Codes of Practice.
3. Identify, monitor, and escalate potential security risks and incidents which may impact the safety and security of APH.
4. Liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders via phone, radio, and email communication systems, ensuring accurate and sound advice.
5. Triage routine enquiries and access requests, through to complex dignitary scenarios, threats against the building and occupants, building emergency situations, and building security events.
6. Support and advise the Parliament Security Service, Australian Federal Police, ACT Fire Brigade, ACT Ambulance Service, and other emergency agencies in response to security and emergency events.
7. With limited supervision, complete timely and accurate incident reports, fault reports, virtual patrols of APH, and shift handovers.
8. Maintain the core competencies of a PSOR Operator and assist in the learning and development of PSOR colleagues and trainees.
9. Other reasonable duties as requested.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated performance in the operation of technical systems in an operations room/control centre environment.
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated commitment to achieving quality customer/client service.
- Proven ability to achieve results, work under pressure with close attention to detail, to organise priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to positively contribute within a small team environment to meet organisational objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to respond positively to continual change within an organisation.
- Ability to maintain and keep accurate and detailed incident reports, capturing relevant information.
- Eligibility, qualifications and/or other requirements:

- Previous experience working in a control room environment, including monitoring CCTV and managing electronic access control arrangements is desirable.
- Successful candidates may be required to obtain a minimum of Certificate III Security Operations (Control Room Operations) or equivalent within 12 months of commencing in the role.
- Work on site, on a rotating shift-work arrangement, including night and weekend shifts

Salary
Currently, the salary range for this position is $75,685 - $79,091 per annum.
Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
• Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
• Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
• Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
