The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is seeking an experienced Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Technician to support the operation and maintenance of critical security technologies within Australian Parliament House.
Working as part of the ESS Operations team, you will install, maintain and troubleshoot a broad range of electronic security systems, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection and intercom technologies. You'll play a key role in ensuring the reliability, integrity and continuous operation of systems that support the security of one of Australia's most significant national institutions.

Who we are looking for

Job Specific Requirements:
- This role requires the applicant to occasionally perform technical upgrades outside of core business hours. This work may take place on weekends or public holidays.
- This role requires the applicant to participate in a rotating on-call roster for out of hours on site support.
- This role requires the applicant to participate in a rotating on-site roster for on-site support (8AM – 5PM).
- Current Australian Drivers Licence
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Tertiary technical qualifications such as Certificate III in Electrotechnology, Electronics and Communications.
- Open Registration Cable Licence.
- EWP Elevated Work Platform Licence.
- Restricted Electrical Licence

Duty Statement
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the specified classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Install, configure, and maintain electronic security systems, including CCTV, access control, alarms, intercoms and intrusion detection equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance to ensure system reliability and compliance with organisational and legislative requirements.
- Respond to security system incidents, outages and service requests in a timely manner. Diagnose faults and perform repairs in line with service level agreements.
- Create, update, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including hardware configurations, system architecture details, as-built diagrams, hardware schematics, and equipment inventories.
- Provide informed, evidence-based technical advice to support planned maintenance activities, system upgrades, and enhancement initiatives

Selection Criteria
- Proven experience installing, configuring, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic security systems such as CCTV, Gallagher access control systems, intercoms and intrusion detection technologies. Ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and system specifications to ensure accurate and compliant system operation.
- Demonstrated experience managing and prioritising service requests, system outages, and security-related incidents to meet agreed service-level timeframes. Ability to work efficiently under pressure, maintain accurate records of actions taken, and ensure timely resolution or escalation to minimise operational impact.
- Ability to diagnose complex technical faults, assess system performance, and identify opportunities for improvement. Demonstrated capacity to evaluate risks, impacts, and integration considerations when planning maintenance or system enhancement activities.
- Proven ability to provide sound technical advice to internal stakeholders, contractors, and project teams. Skilled in explaining technical concepts in a clear and accessible manner, supporting informed decision-making and effective coordination of maintenance and upgrade activities.
- Demonstrated capability to produce clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical documentation, including hardware configurations, as-built diagrams, wiring schematics, and procedural guides. Experience maintaining version control and ensuring documentation remains current and aligned with organisational standards.
- Proven experience identifying, isolating, and resolving cabling-related faults across security and networked systems. Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools such as cable testers, multimeters, and network analysis software to verify connectivity, assess signal integrity, and ensure compliance with technical standards. Ability to interpret test results, document findings, and implement effective corrective actions to restore system functionality.

Salary
Currently, the salary range for this position is $101,168 - $113,706 per annum.
Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at the department are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
- Australian citizenship: Section 22 of the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 requires that employees of the Parliamentary Service are generally required to be Australian citizens. However, if you are not an Australian citizen you may be considered for engagement on the condition that you are able to gain Australian Citizenship within a specified time. Failure to obtain citizenship within the timeframe could lead to termination of employment.
- Loss and resumption of Australian citizenship: Under historical provisions of the Australian Citizenship Act 1948 (section 17), some Australian citizens automatically lost their citizenship if they voluntarily acquired the citizenship of another country between 26 January 1949 and 3 April 2002. This loss occurred by operation of law and may not have been known to the individual at the time. Although these provisions were repealed in 2002 to allow dual citizenship, the repeal did not restore citizenship that was previously lost. Individuals who believe they may be affected are recommended to seek advice about resuming their Australian citizenship. Further information, is available on the Department of Home Affairs website.
- Applicants who progress to the offer stage with our department who have been affected by the loss of citizenship as outlined above will be required to demonstrate within a reasonable time that they have resumed, or are actively undertaking the process to resume, Australian citizenship.
- Security clearance and character clearance: the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- Health assessment: a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
- External Work Approval: Employees must seek approval for any paid employment outside the department and declare voluntary activities that could impact their role.
