About the Program
The Graduate Program is a 12-month, full-time development opportunity designed to set you up for a successful and fulfilling career in the Parliamentary Service.
Throughout the year, you’ll gain valuable skills, knowledge and experience across different areas of the department, all while being supported by an experienced team of professionals who are committed to helping you grow, and a dedicated network of previous graduates for support.
As a graduate, you will start at the Parliamentary Service Level (PSL3) classification. On successful completion of the program, you’ll progress to a PSL4, with high-performing graduates having the opportunity to be considered for advancement to a PSL5 through a merit process.

All graduate positions are based in ACT, with interstate graduates eligible to up to $5,000 in relocation assistance.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Have completed, or will complete by January 2026, an undergraduate degree or higher in the past three years
- Obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance, and;
- Be available to commence work by February 2026.
Employment opportunities at DPS are also subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
- Australian citizenship
- The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance The successful completion of a police check, and
- A pre-employment medical assessment.
Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.

Salary
DPS Graduates are engaged at the PSL3 level, with a salary of $78,258 per annum with 15.4% superannuation (with the complete renumeration package totaling approx $90,310).
DPS staff are also entitled to free parking, and complimentary membership to the Parliament House Health & Recreation Centre for gym, pool and sauna services.
Upon successful completion of the graduate program, participants will be advanced to the PSL4 level in early 2027, and the salary range will be $83,415 - $90,639 per annum (excl superannuation).

Stage One - Submit Your Application |
Applicants must upload their resume and a 1-2 page pitch. The pitch must answer the following three questions (no more than 750 words total):

Stage Two - Assessment and Selection |
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an assessment centre in late 2025. This will be held virtually, to accommodate interstate applicants.
The assessment centre will involve activities designed to further evaluate your skills and capabilities. This will involve a behavioural interview, group activity, and written assessment.

Stage Three - Reference Check |
Applicants who are considered suitable after the assessment centre will have two referee reports obtained from a current or previous supervisor in a work or university capacity.

Stage Four - Letter of Offer and Commencement |
Offers will commence in November 2025. The graduate program will commence in February 2026.
Successful applicants will be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including a medical assessment and a nationally coordinated criminal history police check, before commencing with the department.

Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
• Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
• Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
• Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
