The Opportunity

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 6 Cloud Engineer within the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO). 

 

The Cloud Engineer reports to the Director of DPS Architecture & Cloud section under the Office of the CIO.

 

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for:

 

  • designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based systems
  • working with a variety of different technologies, including but not limited to, virtualisation software, storage platforms, and networking equipment, to build out robust cloud computing environments that meet the needs of the department

 

The Cloud Engineer is often tasked with developing new features or services for existing systems and may also be asked to troubleshoot problems when these systems aren’t working as intended.

 

The successful applicant can expect to work within the Information Services Division to deliver diverse technologies that support the operation of the Parliamentary Departments, the Australian Parliament House and Parliamentarians offices around Australia. The division itself has an excellent workplace culture and the successful applicant can expect to enjoy working with colleagues and management that support modern technologies and a cloud first approach.

Who we are looking for

 

We are seeking a hard working and motivated individual to work as part of a small team. The successful applicant must have strong skills and experience working with Microsoft cloud technologies, be adaptable and a fast learner, capable of understanding a broad range of business problems while also being comfortable with technical depth.

 

Job Specific Requirements


•   Azure administrator certification, or other relevant microsoft cloud certification will be well regarded 
•  The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.

Duties and Responsibilities


The Cloud Engineer PSL6 is required to undertake work that is complex in nature, and work under limited direction with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability. The role includes using both initiative and judgment in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. The PSL6 provides detailed technical, professional, and/or policy advice in relation to complex problems and may assist in strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development. The PSL6 may have a considerable level of public contact in relation to difficult or sensitive issues and may liaise with a range of stakeholders in a representational role. Work may involve management responsibilities requiring the setting of priorities and managing workflows.


The duties and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:


•    Establishing security requirements for cloud computing solutions and ensuring compliance with those requirements by designing new solutions or modifying existing solutions.
•    Evaluating potential vendors and products to determine which provides the best fit for the departments’ needs.
•    Working with other members of the IT team to identify and implement new technologies that can improve efficiency or reduce costs.
•    Creating documentation for new systems and updating documentation for existing systems as needed.
•    Developing project plans and timelines for implementation projects according to company standards.
•    Monitoring and maintaining existing applications and infrastructure to ensure they are performing efficiently.
•    Providing technical support for complex problems or issues that arise with existing applications or systems.
•    Developing new applications or modifying existing applications to meet customer needs.
•    Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, internal/external stakeholders, and service providers to ensure positive customer outcomes. 
•    Manage, mentor, and provide guidance for team members and subordinate staff. 
•    Liaise and negotiate with other areas of DPS and other parliamentary departments and APS agencies.

Salary

 

Currently, the salary range for this position is $97,841 - $109,967 per annum.

 

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

•    Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

•    Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

•    Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
