The Opportunity

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is seeking skilled and service-oriented Baristas and Head Baristas to join the APH Catering and Events team at Australian Parliament House.

Who we are looking for

 

We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced hospitality professionals who are passionate about coffee and committed to delivering exceptional service in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

 

To be successful in these roles, you will demonstrate:

 

For Baristas: At least two years’ experience preparing and serving high-quality coffee, with a strong understanding of coffee equipment and brewing techniques

 

For Head Baristas: A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role, with demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to train and support a team

 

A strong customer service focus, with the ability to engage professionally and courteously with a wide range of stakeholders


Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, including HACCP requirements


Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working within a team

Job Specific Requirements

 

A current Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate. If not currently held, this certificate must be obtained and be maintained.


Qualifications in hospitality or retail catering are highly desirable, showcasing your dedication to the industry are highly desirable.


The occupant of this position must be willing to work according to a roster and work overtime if required. Penalty and overtime rates apply.


The occupant of this position is required to wear a uniform as directed and present in a professional manner at all times when on duty.


The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Duty Statement

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 1 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

1. As a member of the DPS Catering Team, assist with the delivery food and beverage services at Australian Parliament House for: 


a. Staff Dining Room 
b. Queens Terrace Café 
c. Coffee Hub 
d. Coffee Cart, and 
e. in other outlets as required

 
2. Prepare and serve high-quality coffee and other beverages, ensuring consistency and excellence in every cup. 

  
3. Follow service level standards and standard operating procedures to ensure delivery of food and beverage services is of a high standard and meets stakeholder needs.

  
4. Ensure a high standard of customer service is maintained at all times. Address customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints promptly and professionally.

 
5. Maintain knowledge of food handling and WHS practices and contemporary hospitality industry trends.
 

6. Maintain a professional rapport and working relationship with fellow team members, stakeholders, building occupant’s and visitors. 


7. Other duties as required. 


Additional duties for Head Barista (PSL 2), but are not limited to, the following: 

 
8. Supervise and deliver barista training for the front of house team. 


9. Provide accurate and current information to team members on APH Catering/Front of House procedures, guidelines, and policies.

 
10. Work closely with Retail Supervisors to develop and maintain a motivated and high performing team committed to providing a consistent, efficient, and friendly service for customers, and exceeds customer expectations.
 

11. Have accountability for the completion of allocated tasks within required timeframes and in compliance with set procedures.

Salary

 

Currently, the salary range for this positions are:-

 

PSL 1 Barista - $59,091-$67,611 per annum.

PSL 2 Head Barista - $68,965-$74,037 per annum.

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

•    Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

•    Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

•    Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
