The Opportunity

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Executive Level 1 Assistant Director Security Reporting and Compliance within Security Enabling Services Branch. The Assistant Director, Security Reporting and Compliance plays a critical leadership role within the Security Division, leading a small team responsible for the delivery of security-related reporting and compliance functions across the Department.

 

This position supports effective decision-making and risk management by ensuring security activities are aligned with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and internal governance requirements.

 

Working with a high degree of autonomy, the role requires sound judgment, strong stakeholder engagement, and excellent analytical capabilities. The Assistant Director will provide timely, evidence-based advice and lead the preparation of high-quality reports and briefings to inform executive decision-makers and meet whole-of-government reporting obligations.

Job Specific Requirements 

 

 

  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.

Duty Statement

  

Classification: Parliamentary Executive Level 1 

Branch: Security Enabling Services Branch 

Section: Security Policy & Governance 

Immediate supervisor: Director, Security Policy and Governance 

 

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Executive Level 1 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  1. Lead, manage and develop a small team to deliver security reporting, compliance activities, and operational outputs in accordance with departmental priorities and legislative requirements.
     
  2. Effectively manage relevant requirements under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
     
  3. Manage and coordinate the gathering of security information requests to assist investigation, compile reports for key stakeholders, submissions and notes ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of information requests provided by the Security Division.
     
  4. Work collaboratively as the point of contact with stakeholders to manage and track security information requests and reporting to ensure information provided is on time and of a high quality.
     
  5. Prepare formal advice, briefing materials, and agenda papers for senior executives on complex security and compliance matters, supporting informed decision-making.
     
  6. Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across Parliamentary Departments and internally, to support outcomes and business requirements.
     
  7. Promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture by mentoring staff, supporting professional development, and modelling APS values and leadership in promoting a positive security culture at APH.
     
  8. Perform other duties commensurate with the objectives of the section and classification.

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

  • Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

  • Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

  • Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
