The Opportunity

 

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Executive Level 1 Assistant Director Electrical Services within Property Services Branch. 


DPS supports the functions of the Australian Parliament and the work of parliamentarians through the provision of professional services, advice and the maintenance of Australian Parliament House (APH). 


The Maintenance Services Section's purpose is to provide quality preventative maintenance and break down rectification services in APH to DPS, parliamentarians, building occupants and visitors. Our goal is to exceed industry best practice in every endeavour we undertake through always considering the most appropriate means of delivery. 

Who we are looking for

 

The Assistant Director-Electrical Services will be responsible for managing a vibrant team to ensure the effective day to day operations of maintenance services. To be successful in this role, applicants must have strong leadership skills including the ability to supervise, train and designate staff to maximise resources. In addition, the successful candidate will have a proactive approach when it comes to change management and effectively implementing contemporary maintenance practices.  

 

Job Specific Requirements

 

  • Have relevant electrical trade experience.

  • Maintain an unrestricted A.C.T Electrical Licence. Interstate licence holders will need to obtain ACT licencing upon commencement. 

  • Have well developed communication skills and be able to negotiate clearly and confidently with clients, internal staff, and agencies.

  • You must be well presented, neat and tidy at all times and abide by the Parliamentary Service Values and Codes of Conduct.

  •  The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.

Duty Statement

  

Classification: Parliamentary Executive Level 1 

Branch: Property Services Branch 

Section: Maintenance Services 

Immediate supervisor: Director, Maintenance Services 

 

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Executive Level 1 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

1. Manage and control the day-to-day operations of a maintenance services work group consummate to the standard befitting Australian Parliament House as an iconic building and a location of national significance.
2. Introduce and maintain contemporary maintenance practises to ensure quality outcomes.
3. Oversight of supervision, training and designation of staff to ensure a high standard of service is provided.
4. Manage and adhere to approved budgets.
5. Provide leadership in change management, resource management, technical knowledge and management skills.
6. Ensure Electrical Services procurements are conducted in line with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules.
7. Liaise with other areas of the Department to enable best practice in asset management and maintenance.

Conditions of Employment

 

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

 

•    Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. 

 

•    Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check. 

 

•    Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
